For the joy that was set before them, they endured the cross

I have just returned from Haiti where I met with leaders of churches and Missionaries in Harvest International, a Haitian mission network establish with the long-term goal of raising up and sending Haitian missionaries to Benin, West Africa. The earthquake in Haiti has reset everything in Haiti. While the long-term goal is still the watch word, the focus of this network is to rebuild and restore both spiritually and physically. There is a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit blowing and people are coming to faith in record numbers including the Prime Minister and many voodoo priests.

I have made two visits to Haiti for 8-10 days each. Camping out in a tent is the rule of the day. It was wonderful to go to sleep at night hearing praise and preaching nightly somewhere and, on this last trip, waking up to orphans singing at the orphanage where my tent was pitched. Sunday services are being held under trees next to the crumbled church buildings. People are flocking to the services without preaching and getting saved. One pastor of a church of around 300 said that 50 had given their hearts to the Lord the previous Sunday.

With all of this, the pastors are not letting their guard down. They tell me that their must be a spirit of true repentance for the new found faith to to stick and the revival of the church to last. This has been a key element that has sustained fruit of the East African Revival which began in the 1930' and continues today.

I believe two pictures of what the Lord is doing in Haiti come from Jeremiah 33:3-11 and Zechariah 8:11-13. Haiti has been the symbol of people in poverty and under Satanic domination. The Lord has worked in the Body of Christ there for years building unity, and orchestrating structures and movements of prayer. Now like in the days of Nehemiah the people have a vision and a heart to work. The opposition of the enemy is building, but, like the work of rebuilding in Nehemiah's time, the Body must come together to stand against him when the work gets long and tiresome.

May the Lord bring glory to His name and make Haiti a praise in the earth.
