Living in Reflected Light

It has been amazing to see the pictures of the lunar eclipse. Our daughter and son in law in Alaska were raving about what an amazing event it was. I began to contemplate how rare an event it was and that many would only see it once in a lifetime. The reality struck me that the moon has no light of its own. It merely reflects the light of the sun and how the shadow of the earth would cut off its light so easily. Yet even at the total eclipse the moon has a pale reddish cast that allows one to see dimly the shape of the moon.

We are much like the moon. We are created to be a reflected image of the Lord himself. Man in his "full" stage was a model of the creator much like an architect's model of a building or landscape. A good replica but not with full impact of the building itself. He functioned in full communication with the Lord; with full authority of the Lord to carry out the care of creation giving light. The things of the world often get in the way of our reflection. Whether it be the dillusion that the light and power is our own or a focus on the things of the world, the light becomes dimmer and colder than the full light and presence of the Lord.

Worship and communion with the Lord was part of the very nature of our creation. Thus, even when cut off from the Lord we become like that which we worship (Ps 115: 8). If we focus on ourselves or the things of the world, the image we reflect is like that which we worship. The spirit of Satan was "I will be like God, I will rule in my way." (Isa 14: 13,14) With that he was separated from God and relegated to bring death and darkness. When man took on the same spirit, he also was separated from God and ruled under the mastery of Satan which brought death to creation as well.

We can rejoice that those who are redeemed by Christ now have the power to once again reflect the Lord to the world and bring life and light. "In him (Christ) was the Life and the Life was the Light of all men. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot over come it." John 1 :4-5-NIV

It is easy to look all around you at Christmas and see that Christ has been covered by the world at Christmas. The good news is that, like the eclipse of the moon, it can't last. The world is indeed passing away and the reflection of the Lord is growing stronger. Even a small light shines bright in darkness. If the light of Christ within you and your world has been eclipsed by the things of earth, rejoice that the light of the world has come from heaven and He come into your life. That life cannot be overcome by the darkness around you. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

If the Light of Christ has not come within you. Rejoice! The good news is that the Christ the light of the world has come. He has paid the price for the darkness of the sin that has apprehended you. He knows your name. He knows where you live. He knows what you need. As you turn from the emptyness of the darkness of sin and ask Him to bring His life into you. He will come in and empower you to walk in the light as He is in the light.

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. Isa 9:6-7a-NIV

Merry Christmas!
Ken
