Seeing faithfulness through a pair of glasses
The Lord of Host. El Shaddai. The names of God most often quoted express his mighty power or the all knowing qualiies. Sometimes however the Lord uses the small things in life to build our trust and faith in him. A couple of days ago, I finally got around to trimming the forsythia bushes in our back yard. We hadn't trimmed them last year so this year they had become a monster headge across the back of our lawn.
After four hours of work and some determination the hedge was trimmed and a mountain of clippings lay on both sides of the row of bushes. I was exhausted but I noticed that I has lost my glasses. The Lord has helped my wife and me find things when we really needed them. I prayed that the Lord would help me find them. I spent another hour and a half pouring through the bushes and the clipping constantly asking the Lord to give my eyes to see. My wife sent me in to rest and looked for another hour without results. The thought of having to replace the glasses using already tight resources was discouraging.
Once again we prayed that the Lord would not allow the enemy to steal our resources and help us find the glasses. I had to trust the Lord because it was way beyond me. The next morning was Sunday so I got up early to look while dew was on the grass. The Lord led me to an area where I found the left lense. Exicitedly I began to look franticly in the bushes and the clipping in the area, but still no results. At church during worship got a picture in my mind of the frame and lenses on the kitchen table. I got a joy and an assurance that we would find the glasses. We decided to buy some leaf bags after church and sort through everything. Later that afternoon we began to work on the search. Suddenly, my wife got excited. She found the second lense. "Lord help us find the frame." Once again, we were getting tired. We had sorted through about half the clippings and started to move the bags to the street. On the way towards the street one of the bags fell off the wheel barrow and split open spilling clippings all over the lawn. Frustrated, I had to stop and say "Lord I trust you and I ask you to bring something good out of this." I walked around the wheel barrow and there on the groud was the glasses frame.
