The quiet gift
I often get discouraged this time of year when you don't see many (or any) Christmas programs that focus on Christ or the real meaning of Christmas. It is all Santa, or family shows that rediscover old relationship and bring one back to more traditional values. I shouldn't be surprised because Jesus said it would get that way. The wonderful thing about the Creator of the Universe is that He always finds a way to make Himself known and His message clear even when the enemy of our souls tries "jamming the signal."
This has been an immensely "jammed" time for the Gateway Center for World Mission. We just returned from Brazil and are heading to Uganda January 2. In the mean time balancing all the administrative work doing "good" things that really need to be done and taking time with family to celebrate can at times see to all consuming. (We have eleven wonderful grandchildren with another looming shortly)
In the middle of all the activity, I came down with a three day cold event that caused me to stop and listen. The Lord was still there. He was speaking life to my soul and spirit while He healed my body. I began to meditate on all the Lord had done this last year and all His faithfulness to us even in our times of focusing on our own stuff. The more I pondered the more I began to think of the amazing gift of the season. I wondered how the creator of the universe gave up all the wonderful position He had outside of time and condescended to enter into time take on flesh
and pay the price to die for our sin so we could be with Him forever.
In the quietness of a stable in a small corner of a busy city, the birth of the child changed not only the course of human history, but all creation. In the business of the season, take the time to contemplate not only the gifts He has given you, but the solitary gift that is yours for the asking that can change your life for eternity. Let the peace of the Lord reign in you life and you can almost hear the angels on a quiet night sing "Glory to God in the Highest.
