Seeds of Hope
There is great power in a seed and the growth of little
sprout. When I think of a sprout I
remember years ago seeing a crack appear in my basement floor. Shortly after that a little sprout of bamboo
coming up through it. There was a bamboo
growth out back but it was six feet away.
That little shoot had the power to push up on the concrete and the push
through the crack that appeared.
Such power is what I have seen in Haiti over the last few
days. A passenger on the Miami leg of
our flight down asked me if things were getting better in Haiti. I told her that as of ten months ago one could see some progress
but I really couldn't tell. I was
shocked when we entered the airport. It
was fully renovated and there was a semblance of order. My spirit lifted as a seed of hope that the
people of Haiti would see life begin to improve. Street were being swept by groups of people. In the neighborhood of the guesthouse a
corrupt local official was displaced and there were work crews are working to
build drainage ditches before the rains come.
Everywhere there signs of these seeds of hope pushing up shoots in the
rubble of concrete. In Port Au Prince
new businesses are opening and signs of life are everywhere.
For several years we have seen the life in the churches growing
here. Now we can begin to see the
expression of life in the natural realm as well. The Kingdom of God is at work because the one
who is our eternal hope is being
manifest.
