The Least of These

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matt 25: 37-40
The month of Elul is King is in the field; close to them and where they work in daily life.  It is a time to reorient their lives according to His ways that He may bless them.
Transforming Communities:  Children in the Bishop Rwakaikara (r-wah-kai-car-a) Special Needs School sang for us even though they were deaf.  Some were lame as well.   "These children are generally throw away children not worth educating. Many of the parents bring them from the villages and never return for them," explained our host. The society in Uganda sees them as useless and a burden on people with already thin resources.  The church was caring for them and working to give them a basic education but it lacked the means to meet anything more that essential living.  Teachers who knew sign language were rare.
The Lord was graceous to us by helping Gateway team members find sewing machines and craft supplies.  They have now learned to sew and are making items for sale.  Additional teachers were made available to stay with the children full time.  Our host said, "Thank you for loving us.  These children now have standing as useful people in society and will have skills to sustain themselves when they are out of school."
Personal Reflection:
Needs are everywhere and we can't meet them all, only Jesus can.  He has said however, "let your light shine that people would see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.  Ask the Lord to give you his light that you may see how you might focus on one thing among the least around you.
