The Lord Who Hears

The Lord who hears.
The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land..'."  Ex 3:7,8a -NIV
The month of Elul is reflective of the time when Moses went up on the mountain of God for the third time to receive the law.  The Lord had spoken to him originally to go and be a vessel for the Lord's deliverance. He had heard their cry.  Moses had broken the original tablets because of his anger with the people. Now they had repented and needed the guidance of the Lord and help to live out life.  More than the ten commandments came down .  The plans for the tabernacle and other guidance to live.
Transforming Communities:
A group of women in Grand Goave, Haiti met were asked what they needed.  "Sewing machines", was the reply.  They formed a sewing cafe where other women could come and make things for themselves and to produce income.  They have been so successful they are now looking to expand.  Church leaders are now asking Gateway Center Lifeworks staff to come and give biblical business training to people in their churches in the Grand Goave area.
Personal Reflection:  The needs are everywhere and the Lord has directed to give attention to the poor.  However if we respond out of the natural compassion for the poor the needs will overwhelm you and the results will not last.  If we connect with the Lord who hears and respond to him according to his passion for them, the results will bring life that lasts.  Ask the Lord where you might just be responding from human compassion and where his heart and passion might guide you to respond differently.
